Pearls Before Breakfast
I decided to use the same name for this post as the Washington Post called their little experiment.
Have you heard about it?
The full story can be read on the Washington Post’s site. I just wanted to share it, because it always amazes me, how usually we are busy with getting on time somewhere, saving time, well- I know- time is money. The constant run in our lives can be overwhelming!
Washington Post decided to experiment with our sensitivity to beautiful things, when we are on our daily run. They asked Joshua Bell to participate by playing in L’Enfant Plaza Station in Washington DC. Very busy place, especially in the morning.
Joshua came out of the metro, took his violin out of the case and started to play.
Not many people taken attention in him playing. Few stopped by just to give him some change, like you would do to any street player. He collected a little bit over $32. Over 1000 people passed him that morning.
Three days before this experiment, Mr Bell played at Boston’s Symphony Hall, where merely pretty good seats were sold for $100.
It’s really sad that beautiful things can touch our lives and we seem to be busy running after the train rather than notice them and let them touch our lives.
Please, take a look at this video as well. This time Ave Maria by Joshua Bell. Not at the metro station anymore.
