Here we are- in 2010!

...to be done...

It’s hard to believe that 2009 is over. It feels, that it just started not that long. Who would think it’s been three hundred and sixty five days since it happened!

Was it good year?
I know it was hard year on many, with unexpected changes, economy being in downturn. But we got through it! And I hope 2010 will be more positive.

For me it was rather good year. I made some friends I tried to keep some older friendships refreshed.

From the photographic side of my life it was good as well.

  • I have followed last year with my Project 365. It was tough at times but I got through it and finished right before midnight, 31st of Dec 2009.

Actually- the project is being continued, under the same address: http://365byjoanna.blogspot.com/

Summer of 2009 was eventful as well. And I learned a lot.

Assisting during these photographic session was really amazing experience to me. For a week I was setting up lights, backgrounds, measuring the light, adjusting strobes, etc., doing whatever it needed to be done to help J.P. capture photographs he has imagined to create.  The great experience wasn’t based on the ability to work with photographic accessories only. Much more than that I have learned from J.P. himself, as a photographer, friend, human. His motivation, strength and focus, while his body so often was giving up is hard to describe.  He is amazing and very inspiring person- I feel very lucky to have J.P. as my friend!
I hope, that medical procedures he very recently underwent are going to help with the health problems he has been suffering from. That’s my wish for 2010!

  • During the summer time I also got to photograph wedding of very nice couple, Holly and Ian. This was stressful at first but very different photographic experience for me. It wasn’t without some mishaps (e.g. when my flash locked up on me in one of less than good moments…), but overall I got to find myself in much more dynamic situation and had to capture the situation as it was happening. I think 1600 shots snapped during really about 4 hrs event speaks for itself. I did enjoyed it overall. And definitely would love to repeat this!
  • The same summer I got to try some concert photography.  One of the bands I got to photograph was Headbanger- local group featuring hair rock repertoire.  For this assignment I was having fun shooting with full frame D700 and one of the flagship Nikon lenses: 70-200 f/2.8 VR-  thank you Loggerhead Studios!
  • 2009 was also the year, when I got brave and decided to participate in local art & craft show. I started with one of the bigger one-Bazaar Spark. Bazaar Spark was part of festival of creativity- the SparkCon. I wish i had more time on days, when I wasn’t participating to explore more of happenings during the festival. Maybe this year?

And staying in subject of shows- the end of the year was marked by participation in local show organized by Red Rooster Gallery in Wake Forest. Show aside from presenting local artists- also supported local orphanage with proceedings from silent auction.
I am very thankful for these experiences and all the different opportunities and exposure they offered.

What is 2010 going to bring?
Who knows.

What would I like to achieve?
I don’t have ready list. There is a lot I would like to learn. Some things:

  • Taking my photography to next step, with more verity of shooting situations is always my goal. I would like to try different techniques, diversify my subjects.
  • Keeping the project 365 going without bigger interruptions is another goal. I will try to be more consistent and more systematic.
  • Blogging! well, here is where I sometimes lack discipline. My goal is to post at least twice a week. Share some news, handmade finds, success stories, reviews.
  • I would like to make my work more visible on sites like Etsy or 1000markets.  Maybe I need to rethink my promotional strategies,  take a look at what I need to change?
  • I want to read all books I got at last library sale. There is about 12 of them- not too many, but I usually get distracted with some other books I see at bookstore or library and this changes my schedule some :)
  • I need to do more lists. It seems I do pretty good job following lists. When it’s all organized and clear on piece of paper it makes more sens to me and it’s easier to follow.
  • I have designated one calendar this year to put all important dates and occasions in it- I have to get back to the good habit of remembering about family’s and friends celebrations!

…there is more… but probably to many little things I would like to do in next 364 days (since today is almost over)
It’s probably better to keep this list clean and sweet. I will definitely make more lists soon with all my tasks to be done.

What are your resolutions? What are you hoping to achieve in this coming year?
Whatever that is- please, share it- and I wish you all the strength and focus, and luck to achieve it!

Happy New Year!
