Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby
Just recently I came across this publication when looking through different photography books in my local bookstore.
I have seen it before, more precisely, its cover, but never really looked inside. That was mistake! I have to say, that I really like it.
You know, that moment when you pick up book at the library or bookstore and just quick look at couple of pages confirms, that this is exactly what you were looking for?
Well, that’s how it was with this book for me.
To start with the author: he is very well known photographer, Photoshop specialist- Scott Kelby. His website- Kelby Training- is packed with all different ways to expand your photographic knowledge. I peek there sometimes to see, whats new.
Not long ago Mr Kelby was coauthoring series of very interesting online shows with Nikon gear in main spotlight, called DTown TV (too bad it’s ended…), he also is coauthor of Photoshop User TV. Just to add to this short link collection- Scott Kelby’s blog: Photoshop Insider.
Going back to the book itself. I find it extremely user friendly- quick and detailed explanations, interesting and really good suggestions. Lot’s of techniques, equipment presentation. And- it doesn’t matter what brand equipment you are using (isn’t that cool?!), everything is described in rather general use (unless describing specific for each brand modes- than these two: Nikon and Canon show up as examples).
The book is definitely for someone like me, who have some knowledge, technical information, need more practice and good advice to not get to lost in between options (there is always so many of them) in equipment choices, better ways of using specific techniques or achieving more interesting and flattering effects.
Because of the sweet and packed with information chapters, I feel, like I am getting the most important, most essential guidance.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend this book for someone who is just getting into using specific f-stops and learning what shutter speed really is. Simply- because it would be more confusing than helpful.
I am not posting this review to advertise anything. It’s rather happy sharing of really useful experience. There is a lot of great books, that tend to loose most valuable information, technical guidance in between long stories about something, that really is not important to me. And it may be just my perspective, but I like to know quickly, so I can use it right away! And the Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby is one of great reads with instant access to the knowledge!
Looks like this book (which consists of three volumes) can be purchased directly from Scott Kelby’s site: HERE and Amazon has all three volumes of the series: Vol 1+2 and Vol 3
